In many indigenous communities, no matter in Australia or in the US, backburning or controlled burning were practiced to manage bushfire. However, in the 20th century, it was believed in the US that fires should be suppressed at all times. 

This measure of fire suppression appeared to work at the beginning, but in recent years, wildfires become more severe, with significant increase in the frequency and intensity of bushfires. Studies show that fire suppression can exacerbate the impacts of climate change and fuel accumulation, not allowing time for forests to reset itself. Fire suppression can actually do more harm than good to the environment and the ecosystem in the long run.

Therefore, it is crucial to allow fire to burn under moderate weather conditions in a controlled manner. It is important to allow the nature to do its magic.
